Research Scientist – Metabolomics & Glycomics
The Center for Biomedical Mass Spectrometry Research at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) is seeking an experienced Research Scientist (MS or PhD level) to add to our growing team. The MS Center applies state-of-the-art mass spectrometry and bioinformatic methods to assist researchers at MCW with proteomic, glycoproteomic, glycomic, and metabolomics studies. The Center operates with a flexible model, where advanced analyses are pursued collaboratively, and simple workflows are pursued as fee-for-service. The Research Scientist will be responsible for completing collaborative and fee-for-service projects related to metabolomics. Previous experience in targeted metabolomics is required, including understanding of basic cellular metabolic pathways (glycolysis, TCA cycle, oxidative phosphorylation) and how metabolomics data are interpreted within the context of complex biological questions. The Scientist will also receive training in glycomic analyses. Previous experience in glycomics is highly valued, but not required. Instrumentation and software available in the MS Center include: Thermo Orbitrap Fusion Lumos, Thermo LTQ Orbitrap Velos, Agilent QqQ, Agilent Q-TOF, ProteomeDiscoverer, Skyline, ProSight, Byonic, Metaboanalyst, and KNIME analytics platform.
Qualifications: We are looking for strongly self-motivated, independent, and ambitious scientists with critical thinking ability. At least three years of previous mass spectrometry experience beyond the terminal degree is required for this position, including operation and maintenance of modern instrumentation and data interpretation. Strong organizational and communication skills, creativity in methodological development, understanding of basic experimental design and statistical analyses, and familiarity with fundamental cellular metabolic networks are required for this position.
Benefits: Beyond a very competitive salary, benefits including health, dental, vision, and life insurance, health and dependent care flexible spending account, dependent care assistance, employer contributions to 403b plan.
