How do I submit a sample for analysis?

The first step is always a consultation between the Investigator and experts in the MS Center to define the project. Once you have approved the Project Charter and have an assigned project number, we will accept samples prepared using approved protocols that are submitted directly to the MS Center researcher assigned to handle the project. Most projects are pursued collaboratively, and we do not accept samples without prior consultation.

Do you accept samples from outside MCW?

Yes! We work with external users – including academic and non-academic organizations.

How much sample do I need for my analysis?

There is no single correct answer. The minimum amount required depends on the chemical characteristics of the analyte, complexity of matrix, instrument, and application (e.g. identification, quantitation, characterization). This is one of the reasons why every projects begins with a consultation with experts within the Center so we can guide you on the specific quantities necessary for your project goals.

There are so many bioinformatic platforms available, how does the Center select which ones to use?

When possible, we use professionally developed software that is robust and validated by thousands of laboratories worldwide. As bioinformatic tools are constantly evolving, we pay special attention to new trends in the field by attending conferences, specialized training courses, and participate in beta testing for software developers.

How much does it cost?

There is no single correct answer. The costs depend on project, question, scale, and amount of time required for any customization. This is one of the reasons why every project begins with a consultation with experts within the Center so we can guide you on the specific details applicable for your project goals.
